Dr Kandikattu is one of the best medical doctors i have seen during my pain management needs. His demeanor and bed-side manner is calm, positive, thorough, attentive, flexible, and personal. He made me feel comfortable and relaxed and asked me questions about my recreational life (which no doctor has ever done before!). we also discussed my personal life and showed palpable concern in restoring a “normality and a quality of my life” having been put into cancer palliative care by the oncology dept. He took time to address some life phase events and he made recommendations as to what i needed. i find that doctors usually are distracted or rushed when visiting their patients, but not with dr. kandikattu. i had the sense that this doctor REALLY cared about my whole being and not just the fact that i needed a physical exam and some other work done. additionally i could tell that dr. kandikattu has a well-rounded medical background and approaches his care with a total perspective, not the typical medical “fix it and get rid of it” approach. It is for this reason and the fact that his staff were very friendly and welcoming, that i give him 5 stars! i would definitely recommend this Doctor to anyone that values their health and wants a doctor that cares.

I had been referred to Kandikattu for a injection in the spine by the back surgeon. I felt this procedure incorrect for my condition. Kandikattu sat and actually listened to me and my husband explain what was going on. He is the first Doctor to not draw the conclusion that I was old, fat and unfit, as had all his predecessors, explained in grate detail what he thought my muscle groups were too tight from all the exercise he forwarded me to the physio department. Having been told for 57 years that I was lazy and to do more exercise by every specialist, the pain has increased, and I had lost mobility, even though I'm a dancer I'm still in pain but my stability, mobility, ASTHMA and general health has improved 10 fold I can't thank him enough for actually listening to me

Dr Kandikattu has treated me on several occasions over the last 6 years for severe back pain. He has always explained every procedure most comprehensively, the benefits, the limitations and likely efficacy. His attitude and care inspire confidence. Each treatment has made improvements to my condition. I trust him implicitly and he has never caused me any pain or discomfort. My treatment has been successful for the management of my pain which an operation cannot be relied upon cure. I often recommend Dr Kandikattu to my friends and family and will continue to do so.

Profile

Dr Kandikattu is one of the few pain medicine consultants in East Anglia to have gained certification in the Fellowship in Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP). He uses the biopsychosocial model of pain to offer modern assessment and management of his patients’ pain at the Peterborough City & Stamford Hospital, Fitzwilliam and Boston West and Clementine Churchill Hospitals.

“Whilst doing my pain training at the Royal Marsden Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital and Hillingdon Hospital, I was inspired by the pioneers in pain management there and I became keen to learn new techniques.”

“I am pleased to now be able to tutor students studying for their MSc in Regional Anaesthetics at the University of East Anglia and I hope that I can instil some of desire to embrace new and modern pain management techniques in these trainees.”

Dr Kandikattu offers comprehensive pain management to people suffering from chronic pain from their head to their toes including: cancer, musculoskeletal and spinal (neck, chest, lower back, sciatica), neuropathic, complex regional pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, chronic headaches and persistent post-surgical pain.

He performs a full range of pain interventions including epidurals, facet and sacroiliac joint injections, radiofrequency denervations, most of which are image-guided using x-ray or ultrasound guidance. He is also an expert in treating acute pain and inpatient pain management.

He offers outpatient appointments and inpatient care for pain management intervention at the Fitzwilliam and Boston West Hospitals. Patients struggling with chronic post-operative pain may need further pain management to relieve their discomfort and Dr Kandikattu can offer a back-up service for them too.

“I use this holistic model of approach for all my patients, taking all the biological, psychological and, social factors into account as each can impact on a patient’s pain. It’s important to treat patients as a whole.” said Dr Kandikattu.
